For AvaKIT, a research project at the Mixality Lab, Hochschule Emden/Leer, funded by the Hochschule’s Forschungsfonds WS26/27, we’re looking for a student assistant. We’re building an open source toolkit for anthropomorphic 3D AI avatars (AvaKIT) that can be embedded directly into Moodle courses as interactive, motivating learning units, combining a Unity-based 3D frontend, real-time AI orchestration, and a no-code authoring tool for the teaching staff to enable them to create content themselves.
Your role will focus on the Unity frontend: avatar animation and lip-syncing, and integrating it as a web component/plugin into Moodle courses. If you’re interested, there’s also a chance to contribute to the React-based authoring frontend.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is currently enrolled at a German university
- Has solid experience with Unity
- Has initial programming experience
- Ideally has C# programming experience
- Wants to work on educational technology and contribute to open source
We offer:
- A student assistant contract (~40 hrs/month), initially 6 months (Oct 2026 – Mar 2027)
- Hands-on work on a cutting-edge, applied AI/3D project
- Potential for continued involvement in this project or our lab if follow-up funding is secured
We are aiming to select a candidate mid-September. Are you interested in working with us? Send your CV to Dr. Jonas Blattgerste ([email protected]). If you have a portfolio, GitHub, or other work you’d like to share, feel free to include it.
